1st & 2nd GRADES CURRICULUM
The students have daily Bible lessons and weekly chapel to instill biblical principles for daily living.
Our English courses teach all parts of speech, sentence structure, mechanics, usage, writing skills, study reference skills, and listening and speaking skills Reading includes word recognition, comprehension, vocabulary, literature, study skills, silent and oral reading and composition. Spelling includes word lists, correct usage, and phonics application.
Saxon mathematics is based on the principle of developing math skills incrementally and reviewing past skills daily. It also incorporates regular and cumulative assessments.
1st grade-Saxon math focuses on skip counting by ones, twos, fives and tens, identifying ordinal position to tenths, mastering all basic addition and subtraction facts, and measuring using inches, feet, and centimeters. This curriculum also teaches students how to add coins, draw polygons, and observe information from real graphs, pictographs, and bar graphs.
2nd Grade- Saxon math covers a larger range of critical concepts, such as working with larger numbers, geometric shapes, Venn diagrams, graphs, basic arithmetic calculations, and simple fractions
1st grade - Students learn how our country was founded and what our basic freedoms are. They meet several famous American patriots and take a trip across America. Good citizenship is emphasized and reading skills are developed. Patriotic songs are included. Students are introduced to major countries and U.S. Territories.
2nd grade – Students will step back into history and learn what life would have been like in our country’s early days. They learn the history of our flag and of patriotic songs and holidays and study the lives of groups that made valuable contributions to our American heritage: the Pilgrims, American Indians, early colonists, pioneers, cowboys, and immigrants. Geography is interwoven; review questions and activities throughout help to test comprehension.
1st grade - Students are introduced to concepts such as the senses, the seasons, health and safety, gravity, and more. Each topic is presented within a biblical worldview. Students will begin the development of critical thinking skills by taking part fun activities that will require the student to apply the things they have learned.
2nd grade - Students will explore many points of curiosity such as how plants grow, where animals live and how light works. Students will have hands-on-learning opportunities. Students will be given a review of each section at the end to help access students’ comprehension of the chapter’s content.
